The Kumpanjija Knights' Association of Blato is the central folklore association in Blato, dedicated to preserving and passing on the traditional sword dance and the town's rich cultural and historical heritage. Although formally established in 1927, its roots are much older and reach back to medieval military formations. Over the decades, the association has become one of the most recognisable representatives of Blato and its folklore, presenting it to audiences throughout Croatia, Europe and the world. The project 'In the Footsteps of Tradition: Promoting the Folklore Distinctiveness of the Island of Culture', planned for 2025, was created in response to the need for a modern approach to protecting and presenting the traditional values of Blato and the island of Korčula. Its aim is to encourage younger generations, both young men and women, to become involved in folklore programmes, acquire dance and performance skills and participate in organising traditional events of exceptional cultural and identity significance for Blato and the entire island.
