Label holder: Ženska klapa „Teha",
Island: Cres
Product group: Intangible Cultural Heritage
The female klapa group Teha from the island of Cres consists of nine members united by long-standing friendship and a love of singing. The group has performed continuously since 1994 with the same line-up since its founding, making it a unique phenomenon on the Croatian music scene. The name Teha was taken from the Valun Tablet, one of the oldest Croatian written monuments, dating from the 11th century. Their repertoire includes Dalmatian and coastal songs, sacred compositions, chansons, gospel, evergreens and arrangements of popular songs. They devote particular attention to preserving the musical and linguistic heritage of their region by performing old folk songs and singing verses by local Chakavian poets, thereby helping to protect the local dialect from oblivion. With warmth and dedication, they tell stories about island life, the heritage of their ancestors and the distinctive environment to which they belong. Teha has received numerous awards and recognitions at respected festivals, including the Festival of Dalmatian Klapas in Omiš, the International Choir Festival in Verona, Klapa Istre i Kvarnera in Buzet and the Klapa Festival in Senj. They have given more than 700 performances, appeared throughout Croatia and abroad, and shared more than three decades of musical creativity. They have preserved their musical tradition on two recordings: 'Sve divojke creske' and 'Momu škoju'. The group's musical director is Prof. Mirjana Mikičić-Flego.
