Škarpini are part of the traditional costume of the island of Iž and were once made at home. At the beginning of the 20th century, the kaliger shoemaking craft developed and continued their production. To preserve the island's tradition and keep škarpini from falling into oblivion, sculptor and graphic designer Sara Pavičić branded and redesigned them as comfortable, wearable footwear.
